2006 Presidents Letters

January 2007:

The January meeting will be held at the Lincoln Leisure Center in Bloomington at 7pm and in Room #203. We have lined up some great old fishing videos, and will be having free pizza and soft drinks, so come on out. We will also have a schedule for next years tournaments, including the Charity tournament.

Come out and meet your new board and interact with them at this fun activity. Also keep in mind that in February we will be having our annual open house and tackle swap, so sort out those old secret baits and get them ready to sell to someone else and put some extra cash in your pockets.

We will be striving to post more information on the web site as we have gotten someone interested in maintaining this asset for the club. So check it out periodically and we will have more club information on it for your information and use. Remember too that it is time to renew your memberships, so contact Larry Reece to get ready for the Tuesday Night tourneys and the Sunday tourneys.

The board is investigating having another well known  bass pro fisherman come to Bloomington-Normal to speak to the club and the public, so watch for that notice on the web site as well.

Happy Holidays

Larry Russell President

October 2006:

Well, fellow bass clubbers, another month has come and gone and now it is Classic time. The BNBC meeting agenda for October will be discussing those tournaments, the 1st is the Tuesday night Classic, and if you were able to fish enough to qualify, 8 I believe, then you need to let us know if you are going.

We will also be collecting confirmations on the Sunday Classic qualifiers, 21 this year, due to a tie, to get enough shirts timely. I wonder where these are going to be, hmmmmm?

It is also the time of year to consider board member replacements for the upcoming term, so if you have an interest, and or know someone that does, consider coming to the meeting, or contacting me to let me know who that person is and so we can get them in position to be elected.

I would like to reiterate my comments from the last meeting, that if you have concerns about the club formats, good or bad, let the board know, it is the time of year to plan for next year and input is very helpful in making the right decisions for the membership.  Well I look forward to seeing everyone at the next meeting:

Location-Miller Park Pavilion, 7:PM, 10/4/06

Agenda: Past year, Classics, New Board Members, Open discussion

September 2006:

Well, another fishing season has come to an end. At Lake Jacksonville we had a race to the last minute for Fisherman of the Year, and the winner is J. Maisenbacher! Congratulations Jamie, great job!

The Classic field is set and everyone will want to review the final listings to see how that came out, and plan to attend to those fortunate enough to make it. I can't wait to see where we end up this year, I just get a big kick out of the unknown factor of location for the Classic.

Members should think about the past year and let your board members know what things you liked about this year, or what you didn't like as well. We will soon be meeting to setup next years schedule, and certainly want input from as many people as possible to make the best possible schedules and formats for the membership. I had a great time this year, and really can't believe that it is already winding down.

The next meeting we will review tournament results, angler of the year, and the classic field. Hope that we get some folks to come out and see the results and to meet with the board members, and the qualifiers, and join with other club members.

Congratulations to all the classic qualifiers, and to our new Angler of Year! Job well done!

Next Meeting 9-6-06 at the Miller Park Pavillion, hope to see you all there!

June 2006:

Well, here it is another month gone by and the weather has still been playing havoc with us in our Bass fishing endeavors. Lake Bloomington has been a tough nut to crack all year so far, and the team tourney held by the club on it on 5-20-06 was no exception. Jerry Martoglio showed the way with the biggest sack of fish, so a tip of the hat to him for his successful efforts.

The club had it's annual cookout following the tourney, and those that attended had a pretty good time. They were treated to hamburgers and hotdogs, prepared by yours truly and seemed to enjoy them as far as I could tell. Thanks to Jerry's wife for reserving us a spot and starting the charcoal early as well, and preparing some nice treats, thanks Joan! Thank you Eric Varner for getting all those sodas for everyone to enjoy, and the delicious watermelon that we enjoyed, how many did you have to "knock" on?

Well, the June meeting should be another good Program. as I have lined up a speaker that should interest all of us. The speaker is Larry of Larry's Fishing Hole website, and he will speak about Fishing the moon phases and the effects of weather, and he is bring some handouts, and give aways, so make plans to attend this meeting. We will have the annual youth fishing program on June 5th, covering safety and knot tying, and we need a knot tier that won't bury the bait in his hand, any volunteers? Everyone that is willing to help is very appreciated, so come on out, you might even enjoy it! On the following Monday June 12th we will have the youth fishing derby and cookout, so more volunteers would be appreciated. Contact any board member, or let us know at the June meeting if you can, and will attend to assist.

Well, I am going to have to go now, I have to get some baits and rods setup to fish the Spring Lake tourney on Sunday 5-28-06!

Good luck and good fishing!

Next meeting: Wednesday June 7th,7pm, Miller Park

March 2006:

Hello all you bass clubbers! Well, as I set down to type out this letter, I am just reflecting on the 1st classic qualifier for 2006 that we had a Coffeen Lake on Sunday 3-19-06. The weather wasn't too bad as temps were in the 40's and the wind didn't blow real hard, which is always a plus. At the take off a couple of people had early season boat problems, which reminds all of us to make sure that all of the equipment is working properly BEFORE going out on the 1st fishing trip, and getting to the lake and not being able to get the boat going.

Coffeen didn't disappoint even though there had been a tournament on the lake on Saturday that if you didn't have more than 20lbs, you don't get noticed, it was a buddy tournament by the way. Sunday the BNBC did it's share of fish catching as well, and some mighty good weights were brought in, someone always gets them! Congratulations Eric Varner, way to start your year off! Results will be posted in the newsletter for everyone to see who finished where. New this year we have Fred Myers going around and talking to the winners and getting some inside information on how they did it, so look for those postings soon as well.

We will have our 1st Open team tourney at Sangchris Lake on 4-2-06, and you can sign up at the ramp 1/2 hour prior to take off take off is set for 6am too, which is the ramp at the hot ditch. You can sign up with a non club member and share the weight for the tourney, here's your chance to take that neighbor or buddy that wants to experience a tourney but is hesitant to take off with someone he doesn't know. Entry fee is $80 per team, and you get to count all of the weight towards classic qualification if you so choose.

The April meeting will be on April 5th at 7pm, and we will have Milt Waltermire speak about his charity tournament that they sponsor. We will also be signing up for the Spring Lake tourney 4-30-06.

Well, until I see you at the meeting, good luck and good fishing!

Larry Russell
